After corresponding with the first forwarded person's email, I was informed that the Pyrex company and Corningware, and their formulas to create their glass various products, was sold to a company (PMC) in China last year. It was baking at a normal temperature, but had shattered into shards and slivers of glass all over her oven, and of course, the baked food had to be thrown out and the oven cleaned out carefully after it had cooled off. This makes me feel a lot better. However, recently, I bought more of a variety of Pyrex items for relatives of mine as gifts, and the feedback I got back from them recently, is that Pyrex is becoming a hazard to use. It is very scarey to think that people and their food preparations are no longer safe in their own kitchen, because of the Pyrex problem. Recently, when I brought up this matter to other people, they also shared their harrowing experiences with me about exploding Pyrex baking pans in their ovens, as well as while cooling off on the side of the stove top.
I learned that the Chinese company that now produces Pyrex and Corningware products in China, has substituted the formula contents for another one in their manufacturing of new Pyrex products, and perhaps that is what caused them to explode. While I have bought various sizes of Pyrex baking pans and storage containers, overall I had satisfying experiences with them. I received a forwarded email from their friend who had an explosion in her stove of a Pyrex baking dish. I looked into the inside bottom of the Pyrex items that I own, and noticed that thank G-d, mine were all made in the USA.
i make lasagna in bulk and freeze them. perfect. I had one for a long time, and finally bought 3 more. then reheat them freezer to oven.
They can be soaked in hot water to remove residue & are dishwasher-safe on the top rack. I recommend use of a non-stick spray before use to make clean up easy. Please do not adjust the temperature with this glass item. I bought 2 glass loaf dishes to replace old baking dishes, & I have used them for baking breads and for meatloaf. I have been pleased with the performance I expect from Pyrex. Another tip: I was always taught to reduce the baking temperature by 25 degrees with glass cookware.
Good, heavy dish. Goes in the microwave (which is why I wanted it); microwave meatloaf is the best.
Metal products have been discarded; pyrex is still in the cupboard. It cleans up perfectly, doesn't scratch or dent, can go in the dishwasher. I have tried both metal and glass loaf pans. I always return to the pyrex. I have used pyrex for years.
